POSSUM MERINO FIBRE

All our products, excluding socks, are made with 100% natural fibres, avoiding any man-made materials such as nylon or acrylic. Our commitment to natural fibres ensures that each piece is breathable, comfortable, and kind to your skin.

We offer two luxurious blends:

  • Koru Premium Blend: A luxurious mix of 50% Merino Lambswool, 40% Possum Fur and 10% Mulberry silk. This blend is softer, fluffier, and provides a more luxurious feel, reflecting its higher price point.

  • Trilogy Blend: A slightly more economical option, consisting of 65% Merino Lambswool, 25% Possum Fur and 10% silk. While more affordable, this blend still offers exceptional softness and warmth.

Our socks are made with a blend of 45% Merino Lambswool, 35% Possum Fur and 20% Nylon/Elastane. The nylon/elastane that is added to our socks is to ensure shape retention throughout the sock and to minimise quick wearing through friction.

Premium, All-Natural Fibres

Unmatched Comfort and Performance

Our premium fibre blends offer a range of benefits that set our knitwear apart:

Superior Insulation: Possum fur is 30% warmer than wool due to its fine, hollow fibres that trap warm air, increasing warmth retention.

Lightweight Comfort: The hollow core of possum fur fibres also reduces the weight of our garments by up to 20% compared to other wool types, making them incredibly light and easy to wear.

Moisture and Odour Control: The complex structure of possum fur fibres wicks away moisture, keeping you dry and comfortable. The natural properties of these fibres also resist odour, reducing the need for frequent washing.

Low Pilling: Our possum, merino, and silk blend is more resistant to pilling, ensuring that your garments stay smooth and pristine even after extended use.

Silky Smooth: Our Possum fibres have no scales. With the extra addition of Mulberry silk, we can ensure that our knitwear is incomparably silky smooth and soft to the touch.

Sustainable: Due to being made with natural fibres, our garments will naturally decompose over time when disposed, protecting our environment.

Ethical & environmental
considerations

We are committed to protecting New Zealand’s unique environment. The possum, an introduced species, has caused significant damage to our native forests and wildlife, including predation on endangered birds such as the Kiwi, Kereru, and Kokako. In response, the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC) has declared the possum a national pest and is working towards its eradication.

At Koru, we repurpose the fur of these animals, which are not farmed for clothing. By using this fur in our knitwear, we contribute to the conservation of New Zealand’s environment and ensure that the fur is not wasted.
